Beetroot Poriyal

Beetroot is loaded with bulk of anti-oxidants(flavonoids) and great for boosting stamina.It contains potassium,magnesium as well as vit A,B6,C and folic acid.It reduces blood pressure and the risk of heart attacks and strokes.It contains soluble fibre,which is used to lower the cholesterol.its iron content is very good for those with anaemia and fatique.

In my Pregnancy period ,Beets play a vital role to increase Hemoglobin.Everyday Amma gives me beetroot as a juice in the addition of milk.OMG really i hate to smell and tastes very well.After getting ‘Amma’ posting i search for nutritional foods for My Little Prince and that list Beets placed the first.Now i includes beets two times in a week.
Beetroot Poriyal Recipe :
Thats it : Grate - Seeding - Cook
Cooking Time: 15 mins                     Serves: 2 Persons


1 medium size
Green chilli(chopped)
Coconut Grated
2 tbsp
1 tbsp
1 tsp
Urad dhal
1/2 tsp
½ tsp
Curry leaves
1 sprig


1.Wash Beetroot and Peel the skin with peeler and knife.

2. Grate the beetroot finely using Grater.

3.Heat a kadai,add oil ,mustard after it splutters,add urad dhal ,after getting brown color add Hing ,Green chilli ,Grated Beetroot.Fry for 3 mins and switch off the flame then add grated coconut and give a stir.Close the lid.

Serve with the combo of hot rice, sambar and pappad.

1.Add Grated Coconut lastly after switch off the flame.Raw coconut is not much of cholesterol.
2.You can also add dry grind mixture of Coconut,Green chilli,cumin seed after b4 switch off.
3.I never add salt to this beetroot poriyal. if you want add little.
