Kuzhi Paniyaram (Sweet Version)

Kuzhi Paniyaram (Inipu paniyaram) is a popular Traditional South-Indian Snack.This snack is prepared from rice and dhal with jaggery.Both Spicy and Sweet versions tastes well.

Me and MIL most of the times prepared spicy Paniyaram from leftover Idly-dosa batter and Sweet Paniyaram rarely.Morning usually i prepared Aappam batter and partition it for Sweet version of Paniyaram before adding the salt.All the age of people love this snack.

Thats it : Soaking – Grinding - Fermenting


Raw Rice
½ Cup
Idly Rice
½ Cup
Urad dhal
2 Tbsp.
1 tsp
2 pods
½ Cup
Grated coconut
¼ Cup


1.Soak Raw Rice,Idley rice,Urad dhal,Fenugreek together in a bowl for 3 hours

 2. Then grind as a smooth paste by Mixie for 1.30 minute.Ferment it for 3 hrs without salt.

3.After 3 hrs,add Jaggery syrup,grated coconut to the batter and mix well.

Heat a kadai, add 3 tbsp of water,cardamom pods,crumbled jaggery and melt it and switch off the flame.Cool down the syrup and strain it to avoid the impurities in the jaggery.

4.Heat a Paniyaram pan ,keep the sim in low flame.Brush the dents(kuzhi) with ghee and pour the batter till ¾ th portion of the dent and close the pan with lid.Wait for 20 secs and nw see the upper side steamed then flip over with skewer and keep it for 15 secs.(To check the cooked paniyaram ,prick the center dent of paniyaram with toothpick or knife.if it is come out clean ,it is cooked)

5.Serve Hot or cool.Healthy snack is ready.
