Vaazhakkai Poriyal

Vaazhaikai poriyal is one of my favourite poriyals.I used to buy this rarely.This tastes very good with crunchiness.You can prepare this dish very quickly and pair it up with rice and any kuzhambu.

Vaazhakkai(Raw banana) is a unripen stage of Banana.One  benifit of Raw banana is the high resistant starch content.Unripe bananas also have pro-biotic bacteria,a friendly bacterium that helps with good colon health.Raw bananas also help you absorb nutrients better,particularly calcium.Very healthy food for Type 2 Diabetes.

Vaazhaikai Poriyal :
Thats it : Cook Raw banana  –  Seeding  –  Coconut Mixture
Cooking time:10-15mins   
Serves:4 person


3 Medium size
3 tbsp
Green chilli
Cumin seed
1 tsp
Turmeric powder(optional)
1 pinch
Curry Leaves

1.Wash the Raw Banana well.Apply oil to hands for avoiding stickiness.Cut the head and tail part and peel off the skin with peeler.

2.Cut into small dices.Use it immediately or soak it in water till use.

3.Heat a pan with water ,add turmeric powder .salt and diced raw banana.Boil for 2 mins in high flame.Drain the water completely.

4.Grind Coconut ,Green chilli,Cumin seed coarsely without water.

5.Heat a kadai,add oil, mustard, when it splutters, add curry leaves, then boiled raw banana,coconut mixture and give a stir,close the lid and switch off the flame.

1.Cooking in high-flame is to retain crunchiness which is the secret taste for this poriyal.
2.Soak the cut pieces in water till the usage time.
