Semiya(Vermicelli) Payasam

Semiya(Vermicelli) Payasam is a traditional dessert which can be made easily in a short time.Tamil Nadu Marriage lunch menu ends up with this yummy dessert in a combination of Javvarisi / sago / Sabudana.Everyone reserved pappad till get payasam and enjoy eating the pappad dunked payasam.Its a little difficult thing to eat watery payasam in a green leaf but am sure all njoy eating with a happy challenge of pushing payasam towards the leaf to avoid spilling.


In my home,My Man always loves to eat Payasam with pappad even in a plate.Here ,am posting 2methods of ingredients table drinkable(Thin,watery) and scoopable(Thick) version.Pick up your favourite.

Semiya Payasam Recipe :
Thats it : Fry Semiya – Add milk / Sugar / Simmer
Cook Time : 25mins
Serves : 3Persons

Ingredients :









Drinkable (Thin ,watery) Version :
Semiya / Vermicelli
½ Cup
Water
2Cups
Boiled Milk
2Cups
Sugar
½ Cup
Cardamon pdr (Elakkai)
½ tsp
Ghee
2tsp
Cashews (broken)
2tbsp
Raisins
1tsp
Salt
a pinch

Scoopable (Thick) Version : Kheer
Semiya / Vermicelli
½ Cup
Boiled Milk
2 Cups
Sugar
½ Cup
Cardamom pdr (Elakkai)
½ tsp
Ghee
2tsp
Cashews (broken)
2tbsp
Raisins
1tsp
Salt
a pinch

Procedure : Drinkable (Thin ,watery) Version

# Boil Milk and keep the ingredients ready.

1.Heat a tsp of ghee in a kadai,add broken nuts,fry till it gets light brown in colour.Keep aside.

2.In the same pan,add another tsp of ghee ,fry semiya till it gets brown in colour.

3.Now add water and boil till it becomes soft (10mins).Now it obsorps all the water.

4.Now add sugar,milk,cardamom powder and boil it for 5 mins in simmer flame.Now it turns transparent and pale pink in colour.

5.Add fried nuts,pinch of salt and switch off the flame.

Traditional Semiya Payasam is Ready ...!


Serving Suggestions :
Serve Hot Or Chill
   # Drinkable(Thin,watery) Payasam in glass or cups
   # Scoopable(Thick) Payasam in bowl with a spoon
   # Serve with Paruppu Vadai or Pappad(Traditional Serving)

Notes :
1.Adding Salt is to enhance the payasam flavour.
2.In scoopable method,semiya obsorps all the milk ,if you want to make it watery or little thin just add hot milk while serving.
3.Am here posting ,drinkable version and served with a bowl only.
