Capsicum (Bell Pepper) Chutney is a healthy and different sidedish for idly and dosas.I used to prepare this chutney now and then.I came to know about this chutney from my MIL.She prepared chutney with veggies too that tastes so good for even chappathi.
Recently, i read an article that the capsicum also seperated by its genders.
* Capsicum which has 4-bumbs(legs) are considered as female,which you can eat as raw like salads.
* Capsicum which has 3-bumbs(legs) are considered as male,which you can eat after cooked.
So i used 3-bumbs(legs) to make this chutney.For spiciness i used red chillies,i t tastes well than green chillies,so it turns red coloured chutney.
Capsicum Chutney Recipe :
Thats it : Fry Veggies - Grind - Seeding
Cooking Time : 20mins
Serves : 2Persons
Capsicum - 1 Big(any colour,i used green with 3legs)
Oil - 1tbsp
Urad dhal - 1tsp
Channa dhal - 2tsp
Red chillies - 3 (i used round sized)
Big Onion - 1 medium sized(OR small onion-6)
Tomato - 1/2 (optional)
Tamarind - 1/2 tsp
Coriander Leaves - 1sprig
Salt - 1/2 tsp +
Oil - 1tsp
Mustard - 3/4 tsp
Asafoetida / Perungayam - 3Pinches
Curry Leaves - 1sprig
1.Wash capsicum,cut it by half and remove the seeds.Now chop capsicum,onion roughly.
2.Heat a pan with medium heat,add oil,urad dhal,red chillies,channa dhal,after it browns,add onion,after it turns light brown,add capsicum cubes then fry for 4mins till it turns light in colour and shrinked.Now switch off the flame and add tamarind,coriander leaves,salt.Rest it for cooling down.
3.Grind the cooled mixture as paste with little water.
4. Seeding : Heat a seeding pan,add oil,mustard,after it splutters,add asafoetida,curry leaves.Add it to the chutney.
Capsicum Chutney is Ready ...!!!
