Ganesh Chaturthi Celebration:
In Tamil Nadu ,it is known as Vinayakar chaturthi or Pillayar chaturthi and the festival falls on the fourth day after new moon in the month of Aavani.Usually this festival is celebrated for 11 days.The first day is Vinayagar Chaturthi and the last day is Anant Chaturashi.Ganesh Chathurthi is an important festival of Maharashtra.During these days, vinayakar idols made of clay(kaliman pillayar) are worshipped in all homes.Vinayakar is decorated with garlands and Arukampul(Bermuda grass).In many places idols are made of coconuts and other organic products.The idols are worshipped for ten days in pandals and are immersed in nearby river,lake or sea the following sunday during Anant Chaturashi(eleventh day) .This year (2017), Vinayagar Chaturthi is celebrated On Aug 25th and Anant Chaturashi On September 5.
The Main offerings during the Vinayagar Chathurthi festival is the Modagam(Modak), Ladoo, Panakam(jaggery, black pepper and cardamom flavoured drink),etc., These offerings are called Naivedyam in Telugu.Traditionally plate containing the Modak filled with 21 pieces of the sweet.
