Raw / Unripe / Green papayas are green in colour and rich in enzymes.People prefer ripen papayas instead raw ones,this is because ripe ones taste better and can be easily consumed raw.However,raw ones are difficult to eat raw.It needs to be cooked ans the taste is also different.
Raw papaya benifits the health in many ways.Raw papayas aid digestion,converts proteins into essential amino acids,cleanses the colon,fights nausea and constipation.And also very good for women as it protects the urinary tract from infections.
Raw Papaya Curry / Pappali Kootu :

Raw Papaya 3Cups
Moong dal / Toor dal 1/4Cups
Channa dal 2tbsp
Turmeric Powder 1/4tsp (optional)
Asafoetida / Perungayam 3Pinches
Red Chillies 2(i used lengthy variety)
Cumin seeds 1tsp
To Temper :
Urad dhal 1/2tsp
Red chilli 1
Curry Leaves 1Sprig
# Wash and soak moong dal and channa dal in water for 15mins.
1.Wash the papaya and peel off the skin.Cut the papaya vertically into two parts.Chop into small cubes.
2.Add papaya cubes,turmeric powder, perungayam,soaked moong dal,channa dal,water into the pressure cooker and pressure cook for 2whistles in medium flame.
3.Meanwhile,add coconut,cumin seeds,red chilli(2nos) into the mixie jar and grind it as a smooth paste.
4.After pressure releases,add coconut paste,salt into it and cook for 3-4mins in low flame.Gently stir the curry now and then otherwise curry turns mushy.
* Heat a seeding pan,add oil,mustard,after it splutters,add urad dal,cumin seeds,red chilli,curry leaves then add this to the cooked curry.Stir it.
Pappali Kootu is ready !!!
