Rajma Masala / Punjabi Rajma Masala l Side dish for roti


Rajma Masala is a popular indian gravy which is served with rice(chawal)/roti etc.;Rajma is also known as red-kidney beans.It prevents diabetes,lowers cholesterol levels,prevents hypertension,weight loss and strengthens immune system.The health benifits of rajma are fibre and protein rich.It has antioxidants too.


I used to buy couple of legume varieties in a month which is so essential for our cooking.I believe in legumes and sprouts for its health properties.I chose this rajma once in a while and it comes for about 3months to finish.Here,i post my version of rajma masala with common masala,you can follow this method for any gravies.I like to serve this rajma masala with roti than rice.



Rajma Masala :
Thats It : Soak & Cook Rajma - Add in masala - Cook
Soaking Time : 8hours 
Total Time : 35-40mins

Ingredients :

Rajma / Red-kidney Beans    1Cup

Oil / Butter / Ghee     2tbsp
Cloves  / krambu       3nos
Cinnamon /pattai       1'inch piece
Bay Leaf                    1
Green Chilli               1
Big Onion                  2nos
Cashews                     4
Tomato                       2nos
Ginger Garlic Paste    1tsp
Red Chilli Powder      1 1/2tsp
Coriander Powder       2tsp
Garam Masala Powder  1/4tsp
Salt                              1tsp+
Coriander Leaves Or Kasoori Methi   1Sprig / 1tsp

Optional :
Fresh Cream 2tbsp

Procedure :

# Wash & Soak rajma for about 8hours or overnight.


1.Add soaked rajma with enough water and salt,pressure cook for 5whistles in medium falme.


2.Add oil,cloves,cinnamon,bay leaf,slitted green chilli into the heat pan,then add sliced onions,cashews and fry til it turns brown in colour.


3.Add chopped tomatoes,ginger garlic paste and fry till mushy.Take half of the portion along with cashews then cool down for couple of mins.


4.Grind into smooth paste with little amount of water.


5.Add this puree and spice powders (red chilli powder,cor.powder,garam masala powder) into it and cook for 3-4mins till the raw smell goes off.


6.Now add half quantity of cooked rajma.required water,salt and cook for 2mins.


7.Mash the remaining half quantity of cooked rajma and add it to the gravy.


8.Cook till it thickens say 4mins then switch off the flame.Add chopped coriander leaves,fresh cream,kasoori methi and serve it.


Serve It with roti or rice.


Rajma Masala is ready !!!
